Abstract

This article intends to call attention once more to the dangers of a clinical reading of the Psi universe, if conducted exclusively from the point of view of the rational and ‘scientific’ knowledge, with its western values. This is particularly dangerous in situations that anthropologically refer to the domain of magical-religious throght, which is strongly rooted and shared culturally at a consensual level, by entire communities, starting from what they conceptualise as ‘collective perception interpretation systems’. These are imaginary references that organise life, body image, the oniric world and the fantasy, identity itself, and the notions of life and death. Even the organization of psychic pathology itself, in terms of symptomatic production, is strongly codified culturally, as messages and as unconscious communication with the imaginary formations of their own community. The authors point out how popular religiosity and tradition, as well as cultural metaphors, are a way to avoid losing a cultural past that provides identity, dignity and courage.
