In this paper we propose to reflect on the proclaimed historical, social and political changes around the fourth transformation in Mexico. It is limited to think that a ruler’s statement about the importance and necessity of change is sufficient. Therefore, we ask ourselves what do we mean by social change? What are its historical and social conditions? How to name it? We review some notions of political sociology such as: social participation, civil society and social capital, and we tend to think of processes that take place “from the social to the political”, concepts that allow us to understand the latencies and subterranean elements of the change in the social fabric and in the articulation of the State. The enunciation and inclusion of “everyone” from the idea “of the Mexican people” led us to think about the articulations between the universal and the particular, antagonisms, contingency and political conflict. We have built this perspective with the contributions of Mouffe, Laclau, Žižek, Rancière and others, considering their contact points and distances to articulate the modes of politics in the fourth transformation of Mexico.
