Abstract

This paper presents the relationship between identification and identity to investigate the oppressive and illusory mechanisms whereby the subject constitutes and exists in the social world. We started from the review of some of the classic proposals of identity in psychology, sociology and anthropology on identity, to later delve into psychoanalytic theorizing from perspective of lacanian work. We review the divided and material constitution of the subject’s split, his symbolic identification and then study the imaginary identification questioning the ideological totality that dominates the individual and collective identity mechanisms. Finally, we elucidated some effects of contemporary passion on the imaginary in the multivariate forms that identity takes nowadays.
