Abstract

The insatiable woman is found in stories of magic, of fanaticism, of witchcraft, among convulsive. The theme of the convulsive cannot be missing in film. Madre Juana de los Angeles is a representative film of the contentious decade of the sixties; in it we see the possessed, cloistered nuns taken in their bodies and souls by the demons. Marvelous collective hysteria, with al1 it has of subversiveness. The witch, the sorceress, the possessed are the personification of the instinctive and indomitable woman who does not submit to the established femininity. It is the inquisitorial power against them. Symbolic violence that weaves over the bodies through a policy of domestication, a "should be" established and justified by her supposed original sin; and this is the way that the hysterical body emerges as an example of cultural destiny. That is to say, the hysteria of ones own culture.
