Abstract

In order to characterize the population of Mexico as an aging society, this paper begin with a review the concept and what it has undergone within the framework of the United Nations; then we proceed to the analysis of demographic data of the country in the last decades. The objective information available in censuses and national surveys makes it possible to characterize aging in terms of its level of poverty and main shortages. The application of interviews to higher education professionals gave us objective and subjective data to contrast them with those collected from manual workers, to compare the living conditions of those who continue to work and have already retired, and even those who contributed to different
security social. One conclusion draw from the study is the first concern of older adults: the availability of sufficient resources to meet their health needs, which can cause anxiety and even emotional disorders.
