Abstract

In this article I present part of the results of my Social Sciences PhD thesis developed between 2005 and 2008. For the thesis, I used qualitative research techniques and followed the general guidelines for grounded theory to analyze the social experiences of public high schools’ students at Buenos Aires City, Argentina. Out of the several central emergent categories, here I focuse on two of them: a) trust school experiences and b) dialog and transformation school experiences. Based on the analysis and articulation of these categories, I use conceptual tools of contemporary social theory to identify the relations among the experiences and requirements of young people, their search of recognition and the high schools’ potential to become an ethical and subjectivating public space within the current situation of our democratic societies.
