Abstract

This paper ponders the relationships between history and its teaching, reflecting on three main aspects: first, it analyzes the problems facing historiographical practice and reflection over the last few years, when researchers became aware that doing history —writing history— is an activity that is part of the same history that the historian is trying to grasp. The second section poses the need to rethink the history of history teaching, through a brief review of this practice in nineteenth century in Mexico and of some of its effects on the teaching of history in the twentieth century. Finally, the third section reflects on the other two to bring out the questions and challenges currently facing the teaching of history.
