Abstract

The paper is a study of group bonding as a mode of social bonding. The strength of the bond than renovates the meaning of others in a shared task and the ethical dimension involved in facing all thaat takes place in the relationship with whom we have a common subjective history and strong links, are both enhanced. Dialogue is established based on a group bidding farewell to a daily gathering that took place over a two year period within an institutional framework. Based on the Freudian notion of mourning, the dynamics of subjective timing are revealed; the body as locus of meaning in a group experience; phenomena of ambivalence, guilt and conflict that emerge when saying goodbye; as well as movement related to bonding and undertakings. The paper ends with a reflection regarding how the close of the group bond also confronts relationships with the world, others and itself.
