Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to establish the magical origin of art, as seen from the standpoint of the subjective construction of art and magic as a human need for controlling and recreating its interna1 and externa1 nature. Magic and art start together in primitive man's thought as an illusion of being capable of creating and controlling nature; the first expressions of art are always magical. Primitive man has the urgent need for establishing order and classification; this is the essence of al1 thought. In a single system of symbolic meaning, primitive manifestations of artistic and magical thought have both the purpose of giving a place in the cosmos to humankind, and an order to social relationships. The argument in this article suggests the initial meaning of myths as primitive art, as a sacred place of language in the imaginary world. The beginning of drama is found in myths. This article: deals with art and magic as a symbolic world.
