Un punto de partida distinto: la experiencia de la discapacidad desde la fenomenología

Abstract

This article stems from the aim of developing a joint reflection between the Social Model of Disability and the phenomenological perspective. By outlining some of the concerns expressed by people with disabilities in the public sphere, it is argued that a deeper understanding of disability, in contrast to the Cartesian heritage, requires an approach centered on the subjects’ lived experience and the production of meanings. By bracketing previous knowledge and focusing on the experience of disability, it becomes possible to consider the subject as a being-in-the-world, embodied and inherently linked to others, with whom a relationship of co-responsibility and mutual learning is established. Furthermore, the article highlights, the need and relevance of collaborative research in this field. Therefore, a phenomenological approach proves to be both relevant and suggestive for understanding this condition.
