Abstract

Aging is a phenomenon of global relevance, therefore it is essential to analyze the processes involved, to broaden the criteria for its understanding and to examine the social constructions that attempt to define old age. It is also essential to explore the subjectivities in the construction of old age according to the links and relationships established with social support networks. The objective of this work is to analyze the meanings and the impact of networks in the construction of subjectivities and identities of elderly people in Tlaxcala. We rely on the gender perspective to identify and contrast the similarities and differences among the elderly based on a qualitative methodological perspective. The results indicate that the networks contribute to the configuration of the subjectivities of aging, at the same time, that the subjects incorporate and transform these senses, meanings and subjectivities to constitute themselves from the experience of being old and aging.
