Abstract

The essay deals with the life of Antonin Artaud as a multifaceted creator and artist, exposing the characteristics and evolution of his thinking along with the deterioration of his physical and mental health. The relationship of approach, disenchantment, distance and rupture with Surrealism, through its texts, its passage through the cinema, its consecration to the theater and its encounter with the Balinese and Rarámuri (Tarahumara) cultures, where the development of his gnostic, metaphysical and mystical positions, and the relationship and influence that these had on his conception and theorizations about theater, body, language and representation, all parameters of the critical development of his “Theater of Cruelty” and the “Body without organs”.
