Abstract

This article takes up some of the main axes of St. Augustine’s thought that shaped the political thought of the West, such as salvation, conversion and temptation, in order to offer a philosophical reflection about the exercise of power and its relationship with morality, support for a “politics of faith” that in the name of Power-Good-Savior, becomes responsible for the real and symbolic sacrifice of men throughout the history of humanity. The containment of power, and therefore of the passions (lusts) that push it to arbitrariness and debauchery, are themes that confirm the impossible conversion
and salvation in politics, because the savior’s sake must be stronger and more violent than the evil that he fights, if he wants to achieve his mission.
