Abstract

This work is a reflection on the deciphering of signifiers that Vincent van Gogh carried on his own name, to receive as replacing his elder brother who died, which led him to make art as a substitute of the Name-of-the-Father who finally may have failed and led to a passage to act as suicide. This approach is then contrasted with the historical background, different characters who carried this name in his family and that preceded him and the complex way his subjectivity was building during his childhood and throughout his life, which was resignified by the emotion and passion that the author felt his work.
