Abstract

Community, individual and freedom are concepts which remain active due to the constant debates maintained around them. Modern and post-modern lifestyles have not made the concept of community disappear despite its being denominated anachronistic or obsolete by some authors. Nevertheless, the term community has taken on new senses and meanings and therefore is important to rescue it and discuss it once again. This essay analyses the concept of community from a political philosophy framework with the intention of providing elements for reflection and theoretical debate within the area of community studies. To this end I establish a conceptual triad, community/ individual/freedom, given that, in some way, each implies the other, as will be seen in the analysis carried out within four political philosophies: liberalism, communitarianism, republicanism and anarchism
