Abstract

This article works on the process of empowerment in Latin America in the ‘70ies, the ‘80ies and the ‘90ies, defining this term as a way of producing subjectivism related to politics activities. This analysis describes the actions and capabilities developed by religious, political and social groups that took place before 1990. The situation of social movements in the ‘90ies in Latin America will be also described, specially referenced to the argentine case. These processes will be briefly compared with self-help empowerment and the individualization in other contexts. The research points to explore the distance between empowerment and power that cannot be settle since the ‘80ies and gives clues to understand the contemporary stage.
