Abstract
The paper is pared of a research project concerning the popular song gender of the bolero and the sentimental education of men and women of two different social classes. First, the article analyses how bolero songs offer different placements for men and women. Second, through an analysis of discourse produced by men of both higher and lower social class. The data was gathered in through two group interviews. The author analyses how the social subjects of the study build up their masculine position within love relationships. The results of the analysis demonstrates that upper class men identify with the figure of Don Juan; lower class men felt themselves closer to Tristán. The author concludes that the male stance is build around those two opposíte figures: The Don Juan, who abandons women and Tristán, who is abandoned by women.
