Arte y desobediencia frente al orden de género en el Istmo de Tehuantepec

Abstract

This article analyzes the process of what I refer to as “becoming Neo-Zapotec” through the voices and experiences of two women artists from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. Drawing on their educational and artistic trajectories, the study explores how their practices in community filmmaking and visual arts reveal a sense of discomfort with gender and ethnicity as fixed and immutable categories. The research employs an ethnographic methodology that combines in-depth interviews and field diary reflections to understand how these women’s creative work not only reflects but also critiques and reinterprets their cultural reality.
